Scenes

Very short stories, just a single scene or image.

These are the sorts of pieces around which my longer stories are built; the inspiration.  Something that came to me when I was in a certain sort of mood.  ;)  I started writing them out by themselves as a sort of stab at writer's block; but I find that I kind of enjoy filling in just enough details that the reader can imagine a larger setting to place the scene in... and then the idea of having to go back and ploddingly make that larger setting explicit starts to seem like even more of a chore, when I could just do the fun part and hint at the rest.

Still, sometimes I start to write a short scene and it turns into a longer story.  I'm still not sure why that happens.
